Offset Borrowers Need Insurance As Winter Looms

Regardless of what type of mortgage you have, if you do not have the right home insurance as winter looms you may end up paying out thousands in weather-related repairs.

With winter comes floods, storms and freezes and unfortunately they all bring disaster to many homes up and down the country. Many Brits awake on cold mornings to find their kitchens a few inches under water after a nearby river breaks its banks. Others go away for a winter break and come home to find frozen pipes have destroyed their water and heating systems. And there are also those who even have the misfortune of a fallen tree through their roof – anything can happen to your home during a winter.

Those with the right home insurance needn’t worry – their cover will mean that someone will be round to fix any problems, free of charge. A good plan will mean a plumber doesn’t cost the earth, or will make sure a roofer doesn’t drain your savings.

But those who are not covered, and find that the winter weather does wreak havoc, will be the ones who suffer. During a recession the last thing you need is a £1000 bill from an electrician, or a £10,000 invoice from a roofer. You may have saved all year, only to find that one freak act of nature ruins all your plans.

So get cover. Talk to a mortgage adviser about home insurance plans that will make sure that your money is safe through the winter months. No one can stop a flood or a lightning storm, but people can halt the financial costs of the winter weather.
